PHILOSOPHY

We utilize a Health at Every Size® and harm reduction approach to improve one’s relationship with food and body while also considering the impact of diet culture, weight stigma, and other traumas on the development of disordered eating patterns.  We celebrate body diversity and believe that all bodies belong in discussions of health.  We promote flexible eating behaviors based on taste, pleasure,  adequacy, access, connection, and satisfaction.  Our end goal with each client is to create more flexibility, compassion, and peace with food and body while learning to heal from the impacts of biases, diet culture, and body discrimination.

At Body Wise, we take a holistic, individualized  approach to healing disordered eating and body image issues through nutrition and mental health counseling.  Treatment often includes therapeutic and positive food experiences to regain your natural eating rhythms, gaining body neutrality and working towards body positivity, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) to retrain your thoughts, DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy)  for mindfulness skills, distress tolerance, and emotion regulation skills, identifying and processing traumas and adversities that keep you stuck in difficult patterns, family support, and group counseling to build on your support system.  We are also here to help with co-occurring mental health, addiction, nutritional, and digestive issues that can often go alongside disordered eating and eating disorders. Overall, you will be provided a safe, authentic space for you to be seen, heard, and validated.
